Mufumbini Tours
Welcome to the next step in the journey.
Mufumbini Tours is becoming With Charles Bertram.
While the name is changing, the experiences remain the same—thoughtfully curated journeys through history, landscape and memory, shared with curiosity and perspective.
A new website is currently being created. In the meantime, please continue to explore, enquire and book as normal.
Mufumbini Tours is founded and personally guided by Charles Bertram – storyteller, historian, and seventh-generation South African. We specialise in private Cape Town and Cape Peninsula tours that go far beyond sightseeing. Every journey is immersive, weaving together the landscapes, layered histories, and diverse cultures that shaped the Cape.
With Charles as your guide, you’ll step into the Cape’s living heritage — from the world’s earliest human footprints on wild False Bay shores, to the Battle of Muizenberg walking tour, to the legacy of slavery, maritime trade, and family histories that still echo through the South Peninsula today.
Our journeys also take you into the vineyards of Constantia wine country, the birthplace of South African wine. Here, centuries-old estates reveal stories of empire, slavery, and resilience, with wines once celebrated across Europe and beyond. A Constantia wine tour with Mufumbini is as much about the stories in the soil as the taste in the glass.
To complete the experience, each tour concludes with a relaxed meal at a local Cape eatery, where you can share reflections and flavours of the day.
Every experience is private, personal, and tailored to you — whether you’re drawn to history, culture, wine, nature, or a little of everything.
At Mufumbini Tours, Charles Bertram doesn’t just guide you through Cape Town — he invites you to live its stories.
What We Offer
Constantia: The Hidden Foundations
Half-Day Private Historical Experience
A layered exploration of the Constantia Valley examining early land use, agricultural ambition, estate formation, labour systems, and spiritual heritage.
This experience looks beyond surface beauty to reveal the environmental, economic, and human forces that shaped South Africa’s oldest wine-producing region. Where appropriate, the journey may conclude with a tasting framed within its full historical context.
Muizenberg: The Hinge of Empire
Half-Day Private Historical Experience
An in-depth exploration of the 1795 Battle of Muizenberg and its far-reaching consequences.
Beginning at the site of engagement along False Bay, this experience traces how a coastal military confrontation redirected governance, trade, and capital formation in southern Africa — connecting shoreline strategy to later economic transformation.
From Company to Colony
Full-Day Private Historical Experience
A chronological journey through Cape Town’s transformation from Dutch East India Company outpost to British imperial colony.
The experience examines governance, enslavement, reform, emancipation, and the tensions that shaped migration into the interior — constructing a clear thread between policy, economy, and society.
Bespoke Historical Experiences
Tailored journeys designed around your specific interests — whether architectural heritage, family lineage research, battlefield history, or focused thematic explorations across the Peninsula and city.
Family & Peninsula Experiences
Thoughtfully curated private outings for families and small groups.
These may include Cape Point, Boulders Beach, Silvermine Dam, tidal pools along False Bay, snorkelling at Windmill Beach, or surfing at Muizenberg — blending nature, culture, and story in ways that engage both younger and older guests.
Pricing
Our pricing is designed to offer the best value depending on your group size. All tours are private and include transport.
